Get to Know Me: 3 Fun Facts

Have you ever looked at a piece of art and thought, "I could never do that"? If your answer is yes, then you're in the right place! Just like you, I've thought to myself "Wow, I could never create anything like that" and then come to realize that's the point of art. Creativity isn't linear and we shouldn't be making the same art as the person sitting next to us. As long as you are choosing to create, there is no such thing as bad art.

Welcome to my page! My name is Megan Funkhouser and I'm the owner of Honey Hot Paintings & Prints. My store front is fairly eclectic for two reasons. One, I can't decide on a niche. I truly love exploring all types of painting and refuse to put myself into a box. Two, I mainly focus on commission work and since I'm not a full time artist, this is where most of my energy goes.

3 Fun Facts!

Fact #1: I Break the Rules

I learned the "rules" of art to be able to break the rules. If you're wondering how some artists have a distinct creative voice in their work it's likely because they spent years perfecting their fundamental skills. Anyone can do this, including you!

Fact #2: I Believe Everyone's an Artist

Can you remember a time when you would freely scribble, sing, dance, and play? THAT'S ART! You are an artist! Each and every one of us is innately creative. Whether you identify as an artist or not, somewhere inside of you there's a voice begging you to express yourself.

Fact #3: I'm a SLOW Painter

Once upon a time I beat myself up for not creating faster. Social media made me believe that I needed to be producing large bodies of work at lightening speed in order to be successful. Well let me tell you something, social media lies and comparison is a thief of joy. As soon as I started to embrace my creative process, the more I found myself in a creative flow (the best feeling EVER)!

At the end of the day, I love painting and the more I pour into my art the more I crave it. I hope this inspired you to create something today (even if it's a scribble on a napkin).
